Yeah it is an anime consisting 6 episodes by different artists with different styles. I have watched the first two already, and I can't say that I liked it till now. The art is "messed" (american style?!). Well, perhaps it gets better ...
The episodes were directed and animated by the Japanese, so it can be considered anime. While in most episodes he is depicted to have more Americanized traits, in episode 3 (Field Test - animated by [producer:33:Bee Train]), he has a more familiar look in regards of Japanese animation. Also in episode 5 (Working Through Pain - animated by [producer:22:Studio 4°C]) his overall look is not that of a bulky macho man.
I personally didn't like it much, the animation was nice and all, it had a few good scenes, but to me it's just more of a fanservice to Batman fans.

True.
It was realy good to see how diferent people see Batman, and to se few diferent designs...
I liked the idea of collecting 6 individual shorties and combine them to a whole "movie". The end result was okay.
Short films #1, #3 and #4 are my personal favorites and I can't deny that the animation style played a big influential role in my decision. The story is nothing spectacular, but other parts sometimes have been a bit special, e.g. the execution of the 1st film (telling it backwards, concluding everything in the present timeline: "Memento"-effect, letting kids tell the story; funny moments, etc.).
Besides those 3 good parts, the others been, what I'd like to say, "dusty".
It's definitely interesting to see the different authors/producers doing their own thing with the Batman theme. It won't kill you to watch it one time (1hr 15 min playtime). There's absolutely no replay value though.
What amuses me most about the show is that it actually gives someone a valid reason to make an AniDB page on Kevin Conroy. Pity the Joker wasn't in it or you could have thrown in Mark Hamill too.
I'm amazed at the poor ratings. It wasn't a masterpiece, but it most definetely wasn't on the level of a harem show. Even those have higher ratings. It has very good animation and the stories are about as good as they can get in 15 minutes each.

I really liked the first story 'Have I got a story for you'. Ask 4 people and you get 4 different descriptions of batman ;D A living shadow, a human bat, a cyborg,... Animation, style and storytelling (kinda backwards) were great too. Made me want more of the creepy batman versions. 8.5/10 <3 <3
Second one was so old-school American styled... *snooore* (Have not saved a single screenshot) 6/10

Third one is quite well done, high quality and has some more or less subtle humor. A golf tournament for the homeless - haha... this sounds so wrong. But ah well, my country had ad campaigns of a beer company that donated money for rain forest stuff for each sold crate of beer... drink alc to safe the woods!!
I wouldn't mind an episodic OVA based on the third video. With all the technical gimmicks of batman
Bruce Wayne comes with a quite anime'ish hairstyle while the rest looks western style oO He stood out just because of that. xD 8/10

Fourth is like animated comic-style. Has lots of noise/grain. But I guess it's wanted. Beside the strong and sharp light/shade contrast (which reminds of comics) whenever I pause, it just looks like a comiicture scan, because of the noise it looks like paper I liked that style, at least for a short video. Story was ok. 6.5/10

Fifth shows batman struggling with a gunshot wound through the sewer system while flashbacks show how he learnt to better deal with pain. Shows how he suffers through life Poor thing. Bad bat! 7.5/10

Yeah, batman on top of a gargoyle statue in front of a tower clock... how classic.
Sixth and last one I was like 'wtf, what a sniper' - both times xD It even got some bullet time. Has also a sharp contrast which make the characters comic-like. 7/10
Except for the first one they don't have much of an anime, heck I even watched them in English (sept 1st one which I also watched in Japanese), is that the reason for the low rating? Personally I liked all and even decided to keep the file (normally I , watch and delete).
Awww now I want more such batman cartoons
Alone for animation and style these vids deserve an 8! ;D

Watch the animated series (simply called Batman The Animated Series), Batman Beyond (sequel to TAS, takes place in future and Bruce teaches a kid to become the new Batman) and Batman Brave and the Bold (newest series, in each episode Bats works with a DC superhero, both known and unknown). Also, watch Batman: The Red Hood (movie) and Batman Hush.
I know TAS, if you mean the old stuff that aired around 1995 on Cartoon Network (loved it ). Hm... if I would find it online to DL I'd probably re-watch it for nostalgic reasons
Batman Beyond was even aired on German tv as 'Batman of the future', watched most eps too... but thx for the rest, will check where to find it. This post was edited by lillian (9746) on 15.09.2011 21:10.

Also, protip: Don't read Frank Miller's Batman stories.
And yeah, I had to quote you, to see to whom I respond.
Also, that hurt~!
Seems my default fave site for series' (non-anime) has all the stuff xD
Batman (1966)
Batman and Robin (1949)
Batman of the Future (1999-2001)
Batman: Batgirl: Year One
Batman: Black & White Comics in Motion (2009)
Batman: Ein Fall für Batman (1969 - 1977)
Batman: Gotham Knight (2008)
Batman: Mad Love (2009)
Batman: The Animated Series (1992 - 1999)
Batman: The Batman (1943)
Batman: The Batman (2004)
Batman: The Brave And The Bold (2008)
wtf... lots of batman oO
edit: no worries, I can't stand books... too many words
edit2: and I wouldn't touch an action comic... action has to be animated!
edit3: you reply too fast xD This post was edited by lillian (9746) on 15.09.2011 21:12.

That's a pretty good point.
For the mods:
Is it possible to add Kevin Conroy as a VA here, due to this OVA, like with Samuel L. Jackson in Afro Samurai? Or not?
