Well! I first decided to watch this show because I was running out of things to watch again, and as I browse randomly I found this show which has a surprising amount of [must see], yet rating was relatively low and so I decided to find out myself what is going on out there.
My first impression was that the whole thing is done in CG and I found it slightly weird but I soon understand why they did that. The art of the ships and submarines are beautiful, they were so detailed and their movement was done so naturally and it was satisfying to watch. Soundtracks were also done properly, I wouldn't say it is the selling point of this animation but it really suited the situation when the soundtracks are played and the OP and EDs are decent as well.
Characters are interesting as well but I felt that many of them did not appear enough. They all have a couple of episodes to explain their story but afterwards they do not play a role most of the time in the show. I wish there was more involvement of the other characters as well.
I found the story to be the most disappointing aspect of this show. There are times where the cheesiness has gone over the top.
such as the times when Kongou was supposingly locked from her abilities, she broke the lock by pure anger... or the time when Iona was tied down to be blown up by the supergravity cannon, she got this sudden surge of tomodachi power and destroyed everything.
I think the story was ruined by the classic Japanese friend thing where being friends can save the world. This is definitely one of the stretchy elements of this show. One last criticism is the use of complicated . All those weapons have weird names. I like them but some of them are so weird that I did not know how they will actually work. This took marks off the logic bit of the story. However I really liked the use of tactics and various other things. The story line is very linear though. It was basically bad guys come, good guys at first at disadvantage and then good guys got help or super power and then win everything.
Overall I thought it was enjoyable to watch this with interesting ideas. Story was bit plain and there are many holes that need to be filled up such as what the hell is the fog anyway? This might be answered in the manga but if you are like me who only seen the anime, we don't get to know what are they or what happened in the end.
