On one hand:
- fun premise
- whacky car designs
- fun characters, especially the girls
- good pacing
- old school charm
- good choreography for non-car fights
On the other hand, Appare-Ranman is VERY style over substance, there's literally nothing there beyond the surface level and even the whacky premise isn't made full use of.
It's an ok time waster if you don't want anything deep and like the idea of an anime cannonball run, it's literally just Anime Cannonball Run, nothing more, nothing less.

After a certain mishap, the brilliant but socially inept engineer Isshiki Kosame find themselves drifting on a boat from Japan to America. Broke, the two decide to compete in the Trans-America Wild Race to win the prize and return to Japan. The two battle crazy rivals, outlaws, and the great outdoors itself as they race through the wild West from the starting line in Los Angeles to the finish line in New York — in the steam-powered car they built.

This follows a young anti-social genius engineer wanting to participate in a long race across the US. Initially this was rough to watch as I didn't care for the "I only care about myself and inventions attitude" but as the series progressed, the main character developed. The ing characters, racing, adventure and action overall were good. All in all, there isn't much to write home about this series as its average across the board, but still, a disposable/fun watch.
