Suspender belts or suspenders, also called garter belts in American English, are most commonly a female undergarment consisting of an elastic piece of cloth worn around the waist, (left image) to which suspenders, or garters in American English, are attached to hold up garters. In other variations, the suspenders (garters) can also be attached to the main undergarment, such as the panty's strap (right image), instead of a specific, separate piece of cloth.

They are not to be confused with tro braces, also called suspenders in American English, which are fabric or leather straps worn over the shoulders to hold up tros.
